Capitalism -- the System of Innovation

Innovation is at the heart of economic progress and growth. Yet, what makes innovation possible? Under what political/economic systems does it thrive? Does culture matter. In this talk, Yaron Brook will argue that innovation requires a culture of reason and a political/economic system that is free. Innovation does best under Capitalism.

A Just Society: What is it? How to bring it about?

The Occupy movement and Leftist intellectuals have been calling for greater justice in society. They have railled against the "injustice" of income & wealth inequality. They are advocates for what they call "social justice." But is what they are calling for really justice? What is a just distribution of income/wealth? How is it determined? What is justice in a social system and what does it imply? These are some the issues to be addressed in this talk.

Capitalism has an undisputed record of wealth generation, yet it has always functioned under a cloud of moral suspicion. In a culture that venerates Mother Teresa as a paragon of virtue, businessmen sit in stoic silence while their pursuit of profits is denounced as selfish greed. In this talk, Dr. Yaron Brook—executive director of the Ayn Rand Institute and co-author of Free Market Revolution: How Ayn Rand's Ideas Can End Big Government—will demonstrate how Ayn Rand's revolutionary ethics of rational self-interest supply the moral foundation that previous proponents of capitalism lacked. Dr. Brook will explain why individual rights are crucial for capitalism's survival—why productivity and profit, the "selfish greed" that conservatives abhor, are not vices but cardinal virtues.
